Job Summary
Provide on-site roadway worker protection for activities on live railroad tracks, coordinating job sites and communicating with train dispatchers to ensure work groups remain clear of limits. Conduct daily job briefings with all personnel, submit electronic forms including job setup and daily work reports, and handle heavy signs and derails weighing up to 90 pounds. Maintain high-level communication with supervisors regarding assignments and schedules while adhering to all safety rules, company policies, and applicable laws. Perform required physical demands and complete necessary training and assessments. Extensive travel across Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington is required, including overnight stays, with daily per diems and mileage reimbursement provided.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience as a RWIC with BNSF OR 15+ years of service while employed by a Class I or Class II freight railroad
- Employment is contingent upon the successful outcome of preemployment and recurring background checks, and drug and alcohol testing
- Successful completion of all onboarding and recurring training requirements is mandatory for continued employment
- Candidates must be willing and able to travel frequently, including overnight stays, in alignment with project schedules and business needs
- Able to complete required physical demands and/or task
- Able to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains
- Understand the on track safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protected
- Proficient in the radio procedure for communicating between RWIC/EIC's (Employee in Charge) and assigned work group
- Proficient in performing a job briefing with all the roadway workers within their work location
- Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs
- Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device
- Proficiency with electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
