Job Summary
Provide on-site roadway worker protection for activities on live railroad tracks, coordinating job sites, communicating with dispatchers, and granting train permissions. Conduct daily job briefings with all personnel and ensure strict adherence to safety requirements. Prepare and submit electronic forms including job setup documents, daily work reports, and invoices. Handle and place heavy signs and derails, and proficiently use radio procedures to warn workers of approaching trains. Maintain high-level communication with supervisors regarding assignments and schedules while completing required safety training.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience as a RWIC with BNSF OR 15+ years of service while employed by a Class I or Class II freight railroad
- Employment is contingent upon the successful outcome of preemployment and recurring background checks, and drug and alcohol testing
- Successful completion of all onboarding and recurring training requirements is mandatory for continued employment
- Candidates must be willing and able to travel frequently, including overnight stays, in alignment with project schedules and business needs
- Able to complete required physical demands and/or task
- Able to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains
- Understand the on track safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protected
- Proficient in the radio procedure for communicating between RWIC/EIC's (Employee in Charge) and assigned work group
- Proficient in performing a job briefing with all the roadway workers within their work location
- Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs
- Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device
- Proficiency with electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
