Railroad Laborer (Trackman)

Job Summary
Install and maintain railroad tracks, embankments, and related infrastructure by replacing rails, adjusting switches, and performing special track work. Operate manual tools and specialized hydraulic or pneumatic equipment while conducting visual inspections to identify wear, damage, or safety concerns. Respond to after-hours and weekend callouts for emergency repairs, including re-railing train cars and restoring track integrity. Accurately record work performed, report incidents to supervisors, and utilize basic digital tools as required. Collaborate with crew members on site setup, cleanup, and safety briefings while adhering to all federal, state, and local safety regulations. This entry-level role supports the construction, maintenance, and repair of track systems within NARS's US Field Operations team.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Prior experience in railroad, heavy construction, or maintenance industries preferred
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and visual instructions
- Strong teamwork and communication skills; capable of working independently when needed
- Physical ability to lift up to 100lbs, climb, kneel, and work in varied outdoor conditions
- Comfortable working at heights and in all weather extremes (heat, cold, rain, snow, sleet)
- Willingness and ability to travel to various job sites, including weekend and overnight stays, and short-notice mobilization
- Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and a willingness to learn new skills
- Respond appropriately to safety signals and warnings; recognize and report potential hazards
