Job Summary
Railroad Laborer (Trackman) I role performing maintenance, repair, and replacement of track components including rails, ties, switches, and ballast. Starts as Trackman with potential to advance to Machine Operator. Requires full-time availability with overtime, on-call shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays. Relocation benefits are not provided. Responsibilities include handling track materials, installing tracks, performing maintenance and construction tasks, operating hand tools and heavy equipment, responding to safety signals, and assisting in derailment-related repairs. Must adhere to safety rules and company/federal procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Prior experience in railroad, heavy construction, or maintenance industries preferred but not required
- Willingness and ability to travel to various job sites, including overnight stays and short-notice mobilization
- Must pass a background check
- Pre-employment drug screening
- Subject to random drug testing
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and visual instructions
- Respond appropriately to audible and visual signals and safety warnings
- Recognize, avoid, and report potential hazards on the job site
- Strong teamwork and communication skills; capable of working independently when needed
- Physical ability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting up to 100 lbs, climbing, kneeling, and working in varied outdoor conditions
- Must be able to work at heights and maintain visual acuity for safety and task execution
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Perform tasks like carrying and placing track materials, installing tracks and embankments, changing rails and ties, operating power tools
- Travel between job sites including overnight mobilization
- Overtime, on-call shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays
