Job Summary
Repair, modify, and upgrade rail cars by rebuilding components like bolsters and side framers, welding 30% of the time, and fabricating parts with cutting torches. Perform frequent mechanical labor (95% of time) to maintain railcars according to blueprints, using hand tools, power tools, and precision instruments to locate and fix trouble causes. Operate forklifts to move and align parts, measure and thread pipes, and assemble subassemblies while entering repair data into an electronic keyboard system. Work outdoors for 8 to 10 hours daily in varying temperatures, lifting parts up to 80 lbs, and comply with AAR, FMO, and FRA standards. Reports to the line supervisor.
