Job Summary
Examine railcars for damage, deterioration, structural fatigue, and mechanical concerns; determine if repairs fall within the operation's authorized scope. Complete approved welding, metal cutting, grinding, fabrication, and mechanical work according to customer requirements and AAR specifications. Operate assigned company equipment including tractors and utility vehicles while maintaining tools and work areas safely. Record inspection findings and escalate repairs that cannot be performed at the facility. Follow all company, customer, and industry safety procedures while working outdoors in changing weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- previous experience in at least one of the following areas: Welding or metal fabrication
- previous experience in at least one of the following areas: Industrial or mechanical maintenance
- previous experience in at least one of the following areas: Diesel, trailer, or heavy-equipment repair
- previous experience in at least one of the following areas: Railcar inspection or repair
- previous experience in at least one of the following areas: Another comparable skilled mechanical trade
- Stick-welding experience
- Experience performing welds in the 4G or 5G positions
- ability to follow detailed instructions
- ability to recognize mechanical or structural concerns
- ability to complete dependable work without sacrificing safety or quality
- ability to work outside in heat, cold, rain, wind, and other changing weather conditions
- ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and move throughout the shift
- ability to safely handle industrial tools and repair equipment
- ability to work around noise, moving equipment, and active rail operations
- ability to maintain reliable and consistent attendance
- ability to properly wear all required personal protective equipment
