Job Summary

Perform visual and manual inspections of freight railcars to detect mechanical defects, damage, or wear while executing minor running repairs such as replacing brake shoes, adjusting rigging, and repairing safety appliances. Identify and document car defects according to Federal Railroad Administration and Association of American Railroads rules, determining whether railcars can safely remain in service or must be bad ordered. Operate tools including impact wrenches, hydraulic jacks, grinders, and torches, and communicate with yardmasters and dispatchers to coordinate car movements. Complete required documentation, maintain a clean work area, and follow all safety rules and Lockout/Tagout procedures. Valid driver's license and CDL preferred. Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, repair manuals, and regulatory standards
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Situational awareness
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Must be able to pass all required safety and regulatory training

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience in mechanical railcar repair or inspection
  • Basic knowledge of FRA and AAR inspection and repair requirements
  • CDL
  • Willingness to obtain CDL
