Job Summary
Conduct railcar inspections to ensure compliance with FRA, AAR, and customer requirements, then perform necessary mechanical and welding repairs on freight, tank, and hopper cars. Coordinate repairs efficiently while maintaining work areas and reporting hazards, ensuring all safety standards and quality procedures are met. Operate machinery including large work vehicles and forklifts, and maintain accurate records of repair details using written and electronic tools. Actively participate in safety assessments and equipment inspections, and notify supervision of required materials or equipment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to safely operate machinery including, but not limited to large work vehicles, which may also pull trailers from time to time, and forklifts
- Proficiency with the use of basic hand and power tools
- Ability to learn basic knowledge of how to read Engineering drawings
- Must be legal to work in the United States now and in the future without sponsorship requirements
- Ability to perform confined space entry or monitoring and create hot work permits
- Ability to pass any required NDT disciplines and function specific certifications
- Strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulations
- Must be able to obtain Welding and Airbrake Test certifications within 6 - 12 months
- Must be comfortable lifting 35lbs consistently
- Must be able to safely climb, walk, and balance on top of railcars while performing repair work
- Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoid possible injury
