Job Summary
Inspect, repair, rebuild, and maintain railcars and railcar components. Perform welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication using welding and torch equipment. Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and repair procedures; inspect equipment to identify damage and wear; operate forklifts and lifting equipment; assemble subassemblies and major components; test for proper operation; document repairs in electronic repair records. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized industrial work environment; adhere to safety and quality standards (AAR, FRA). This role requires strong mechanical aptitude and welding/fabrication skills in a physically demanding setting, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience/ability
- 2 years experience with welding, cutting, and fabrication processes
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and repair procedures
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and precision measuring instruments
- Forklift experience preferred
- Ability to work independently and make sound repair decisions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to meet production and repair time standards
- Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with operational procedures
- Basic computer skills for electronic repair documentation
- Ability to work in changing outdoor environments and industrial conditions
- Ability to walk/work on uneven ground
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
