Job Summary
Operate and maintain rail engines to move railcars into position for loading and unloading at a soybean crushing and biodiesel plant. Inspect and clean railcars to prevent product contamination, prepare cars for switching, and ensure the work area remains free of safety hazards. Complete assigned tasks by shift supervisors, participate in team activities and continuous improvement efforts, and adhere to all company safety rules and government regulations. Requires a high school diploma, three years of experience in truck or rail loading, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Full-time 24/7 shift with occasional extensions for emergencies.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED
- Three years' experience in truck loading and unloading, rail tank, car loading, and/or operating a rail engine
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures
- Ability to operate machinery and computer systems while maintaining compliance with regulatory safety requirements, e.g., OSHA (including PSM), EPA, USDA, ISO 9000 and B-Q-9000
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders as well as work at heights; manage confined space entry, withstand extended periods of walking and standing; move manufacturing materials, products and equipment of 50 pounds or more which requires bending and lifting
- Mechanical aptitude

- Must be able to consult with supervisor on any problems
- Must be able to ensure unsafe product working conditions are remedied as soon as practicable
- Must be able to ensure employees are provided required training for area assigned, and jobs and tasks prior to assigning work
- Must be able to ensure area of responsibility is maintained in orderly and product safe manner
- Must be able to perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision
- Must be able to interact professionally with co-workers, Company business associates and the general public
- Must be able to work together in a cooperative spirit to serve the best interests of the Company
- Must be able to operate in a fully responsible manner
- Must be able to comply with the law and Company policy
- Must be able to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
- Must be able to complete tasks assigned by the Superintendents and Shift Supervisors
- Must be able to actively participate in Shift/Team activities including complying with best practices, standard operating procedures, development and maintenance and continuous improvement efforts
- Must be able to actively participate in job-related training as required
- Must be able to use hand tools
- Must be able to use a computer for entering data into electronic data system and control operating equipment
- Must be able to use occupational health and safety testing equipment (e.g., air monitors) in compliance with OSHA regulations
- Must be able to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
- Must be able to extend regular working hours occasionally to complete time-sensitive projects or to respond to emergencies
- Must be able to prepare railcars for loading and unloading of product
- Must be able to move railcars into position to be loaded
- Must be able to perform general maintenance of switch engines and track
- Must be able to inspect and clean of railcars
- Must be able to prepare railcars for switching with the rail road
- Must be able to operate and maintain the rail engines in good working order
- Must be able to notify superiors of rail engine or rail yard issues
- Must be able to ensure work area is kept free from safety hazards
- Must be able to ensure all applicable Company standards and government regulations are complied with

- Must be able to ensure timely delivery of all handled products
