Rail Auto Gate Inspector

Job Summary
Verify load sheets and inspect automobiles arriving and departing the Norfolk Southern Walkertown rail terminal, checking unit numbers and vehicles for damage. Document any damage with timeliness and accuracy, complete necessary paperwork, and maintain a visitor log. Clearly communicate all incurred damage to a direct supervisor via appropriate forms or computer systems. Ensure compliance with HAZMAT and OSHA regulations by reporting incidents immediately and wearing required PPE, including safety vests, toe boots, and hard hats. Maintain a clean, organized environment by picking up debris and working safely around moving vehicles while adhering to company policies. Perform all other duties as assigned in outdoor conditions including rain, snow, ice, and frequent noise.
Required Qualifications
- Must possess a valid Driver's License
- Must be able to pass a 7-year background check and a drug test
- Must be able to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), such as safety vest, safety toe boots, and protective hard hat, when applicable
- Must be able to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast-moving equipment
- Must be able to work in outdoor environmental conditions, including rain, snow, ice, cold, heat, wind, dust, and fumes
- Must be able to work in an environment with frequent noise
- Must be available for dayshift
- Overtime is sometimes required
