Job Summary
Operate radiologic equipment to produce diagnostic images of the body while monitoring and maintaining patient safety and comfort. Greets patients, takes thorough medical histories, and clearly explains procedures in English, seeking interpreter services as needed. Sets up examination rooms, administers contrast media, positions patients, and ensures quality diagnostic images are produced using ALARA radiation safety measures. Reviews and evaluates images for diagnostic purposes, dates and labels them, and records patient data to the PACS. Performs quality control on imaging equipment and calibrates bone density scanners daily to maintain precision. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and students to conduct special procedures and reports equipment problems or supply needs to the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited radiological technology program
- Registered by the ARRT or registry eligible
- Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health: Radiation Control Program
- CPR certification
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Thoroughly knowledgeable in anatomy, patient positioning, examination techniques, equipment protocols, radiation safety, radiation protection and basic patient care
- Ability to communicate clearly in English with patients to explain procedures while making them as comfortable as possible
- Ability to follow and comply with procedures, policies and regulations
- Ability to work effectively and collaborate with medical staff, personnel, students, and patients
- Ability to read, write and speak clearly in English
- Prior experience as a Radiology Technologist
