Job Summary
Provide general technical support in radiation protection, assisting personnel in safe performance of assignments; operate and check radiation detectors (including large area gas-flow proportional detectors, count-rate meters, dose rate meters, electronic dosimeters, swipe counters, liquid scintillation counters, gamma spectroscopy detectors); write, enforce, and provide coverage for Radiation Work Permits (RWPs); perform and document radiation scans, direct, and smear surveys; assist in packaging and shipping samples (soil/building material); select proper instrumentation for project needs; establish and implement workplace controls (posting/marking/boundary/donning-doffing/egress); support waste management characterization and disposal; provide coverage for work involving respirators, hazardous conditions, and confined spaces; provide emergency radiological response; operate and review measurement data to ensure safety compliance; understand local, state, and federal regulations; conduct radworker and continued training for site personnel; background checks and drug screening required.
