Job Summary
Operate radiology equipment to make radiographs of designated body portions, select proper technique, and position patients for examinations. Process radiographs in the darkroom or control area, review images for identification and quality, and document all patient information, consents, and medical records. Assist licensed independent practitioners with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional procedures, administer medications and contrast agents as prescribed, and provide CPR and first aid. Transport patients between units, apply ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure, and maintain clean work areas using portable equipment. Perform non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures and educate students or other healthcare providers as a Level II technologist.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent
- Graduation from an accredited two-year program in radiologic technology approved by the Joint Review Committee on Education
- Certification as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health
- Flouroscopy certification by the State of California, Department of Health Services
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) as a Registered Technologist
- One (1) year of experience as a Radiological Technologist
- Possession of a current American Heart Association Responder or Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card at time of hire
- Maintenance of RQI Responder certification and competency
- Maintenance of all health requirements designated by Kern Medical Center
- Knowledge of modern radiology equipment and techniques
- Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
- Knowledge of occupational and safety precautions for radiologic work
- Knowledge of acute care hospital procedures
- Effective verbal and written communications skills
- Computer skills
- Ability to administer emergency first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Ability to maintain records and files
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to deal tactfully and professionally with patients, physicians and staff
- Ability to maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality
- Possession of a current valid California Driver's License
- Adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119)
Desired Qualifications
- Flouroscopy certification by the State of California, Department of Health Services must be obtained within six months
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) as a Registered Technologist is desirable
