Job Summary
Radio Programming Engineer within the NC State Highway Patrol Technical Services Unit Radio Shop. Develop, maintain, and deploy radio programming templates (code plugs) for VIPER and other public safety radio systems; program, configure, test, and support mobile, portable, and fixed radio equipment; install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair communications equipment and related infrastructure; serve as a technical resource for radio programming, interoperability, and communications initiatives; coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to support interoperability and operational requirements; assist with inventory management, asset tracking, and lifecycle planning; evaluate operational needs and help develop technical solutions, specifications, and cost estimates; support emergency communications operations and statewide deployment activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT-related field, or an Associate degree in computer science or related technical field with one year of networking-related experience, or High School/GED with four years of networking-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License, FCIA, NABER or equivalent industry certification
- Must have a valid driver’s license issued from the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment
- Ability to successfully pass Criminal Background Investigation and Drug Screening Test
