Job Summary
The Radiation Therapist provides safe and accurate radiation treatment, ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols. Responsibilities include documenting patient orders, explaining procedures, performing planning CT scans, delivering radiation therapy, participating in brachytherapy, and conducting Quality Assurance tests. Requires knowledge of oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and the use of imaging technologies. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, relevant certifications, and demonstrate competency with treatment technologies.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation accredited education program on Radiologic Technology/Radiation Therapy Program
- Must maintain current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy
- Active accreditation in Radiography with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency
- CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology
- Competency with linear accelerators and radiation oncology record systems
- Demonstrate understanding of equipment operation and attached components
Additional Requirements
- Exposure to blood and body fluids, tissue, contagious diseases, and potentially hazardous materials
- Occasionally heavy lifting required
