Job Summary
The Radiation Therapist is responsible for applying ionizing radiation to oncology patients under the guidance of the Radiation Oncologist. This role involves maintaining accurate treatment records, processing orders for specific exams, acting as a liaison between patients, their families, and physicians, and monitoring patients for adverse reactions during therapy. Key responsibilities include administering therapy, documenting port films and treatment charts, maintaining daily patient schedules, performing quality control and assurance duties, and submitting billing for treatments. Required qualifications include completion of an accredited radiation therapy program, ARRT registration, state licensure, BLS certification, and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited program in Radiation Therapy Technology
- Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 90 days of hire
- Licensed in the state of practice by the Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners within 90 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient with Windows-style applications and software programs specific to role
- Understanding of all utilized equipment, its use and care
- Ability to chart accurately and maintain all data pertinent to patient's therapy and care
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Extensive knowledge of radiation therapy concepts, applications and administration.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in the fabrication of contours, cases and patient immobilization devices.
