Job Summary

Deliver prescribed radiation therapy courses with minimal supervision while verifying prescriptions, consent forms, and patient identification prior to treatment. Prepare treatment rooms and equipment, including immobilization devices and positioning, then escort and safely transfer patients to the treatment couch. Monitor patients continuously during therapy and simulation using closed-circuit monitors, stopping treatment immediately if adverse reactions occur. Perform daily physics checks on equipment, maintain accurate treatment records and port films, and assist in dosimetry calculations and patient chart conferences.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Radiologic Science
  • Certification in Radiation Therapy from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART)
  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Radiation Control Board
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • One (1) year of experience in radiation therapy
  • An in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time under various conditions while treating patients
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area
  • Ability to work independently to perform exams and will seek out assistance from others and supervisor as necessary
  • Displays good judgment and works through a problem with creativity and remains focused and professional
  • Responds to changes and/or stats in the work schedule in a calm and appropriate manner
  • Demonstrates cooperation with co-workers and management to ensure an atmosphere that is conductive to high quality patient's care
  • Knowledge of handling of blocks and proper use of all equipment
  • Knowledge of standard practice consistent with quality care
  • Frequent standing, occasional sitting & walking, lifting of 30-35 lbs
  • Pushing, pulling, & moving stretchers and machines
  • Manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to diagnostic equipment and computer keyboard
  • Hearing and visual sufficient to perform examinations, observe patients, read monitors and documents, hear equipment and hospital alarms
  • Close contact with patients having contagious diseases
  • Exposure to radiation used to treat patients
  • Frequent contacts with patients, physicians, patients' families, and other personnel throughout the hospital
  • Must be available for Day Shift (Monday - Friday)
  • Must be available for 40 hours per week

Desired Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of experience in radiation therapy
