Job Summary
Fully proficient Radiation Control Technician 3 responsible for radiological support at Laboratory sites, including workplace surveillance, interpretation of radiological data, and health physics support. Manages high-hazard radiological jobs, ensures compliance with radiation protection activities per 10 CFR 835, reviews radiological work for proper controls, postings, and Laboratory requirements. Provides on-the-job training in procedures for monitoring, contamination control, external exposure control, and emergency response. Interfaces with emergency personnel and health physicists; may assume field management and direct other technicians as needed. Work may require 24/7 coverage, rotating shifts, and may occur outdoors; lifting and PPE use required. Education: high school diploma plus three years related experience or equivalent; DOE clearance and U.S. citizenship required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with three years of related experience (or equivalent combination)
- Q clearance (and US citizenship) or eligibility per DOE requirements
- Experience with 10 CFR 835 radiation protection requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and carry 35 lbs; pass physical requirements
- Ability to perform in demanding radiological environments including outdoors and variable hours
- Knowledge of radiation monitoring procedures, contamination control, and emergency response
- Ability to mentor others and provide on-the-job training
