Job Summary
Conduct comprehensive client intake interviews and assess eligibility for the San Francisco Emergency Rental Assistance Program (SFERAP) by collecting documentation and organizing required information. Provide short-term case management services, including developing individualized housing plans, supporting clients with budgeting and financial literacy, and advocating on behalf of tenants in communications with landlords and legal representatives. Submit a minimum of two complete client applications weekly and process applications for individuals in Unlawful Detainer proceedings while collaborating closely with tenant attorneys. Enter client data accurately for program evaluation and attend weekly and monthly agency meetings. This role supports the RADCo team within Eviction Defense Collaborative's Right to Counsel Program, ensuring compassionate, client-centered assistance for San Francisco tenants facing eviction or housing instability.
Required Qualifications
- At least four (4) years of relevant experience performing case management, whether paid, volunteer, internship, community-based, or academic.
- Experience working directly with individuals with a diversity of racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and other office software; experience managing online calendars and setting appointments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to understand legal documents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with others, listen closely and convey points clearly.
- Strong organization and time-management skills; ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, manage a high volume of work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Ability to follow detailed instructions, collaborate effectively with legal teams, and engage constructively with clients and colleagues.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to effectively support and de-escalate interactions with clients experiencing high levels of stress, particularly those facing potential eviction.
- Proven ability to quickly build rapport, reassure distressed clients, and exercise sound judgement in making decisions based on anticipated outcomes and client needs.
- Some evening or weekend work may be required.
- This is a hybrid role. Employees may be able to work from home two (2) regularly scheduled days a week after thirty (30) days of employment.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in housing justice, legal aid, or social services settings.
- Fluency in a language other than English highly preferred (Spanish, Cantonese, or Tagalog especially welcome).
- Proven ability to ask personal or sensitive questions with professionalism, compassion, and discretion.
- Salesforce or other legal/case management database experience is a plus.
- Experience conducting income eligibility assessment for housing services, including housing rental subsidy initiatives or Below Market Rate (BMR) housing units.
