Job Summary
Observe races from start to finish, input horse running orders into computer systems, and determine finish order using photo finish tools. Verify horses in the paddock for proper equipment and trainer presence, monitor training workouts, and weigh jockeys according to published weights. Identify participating horses via lip tattoos and microchips, process claims for winning claimants, and time official timed workouts and races. Act as Placing Judge, Paddock Judge, Horse Identifier, Clerk of Scales, Claims Clerk, and Clocker to ensure race accuracy and safety. Requires proficiency in Microsoft applications, valid driver's license, and ability to work in varying weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Must be proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook)
- Must have excellent customer service/communication skills
- Must be able to work in a teamwork focused environment
- Must be able to respond to visual and oral cues
- High School diploma; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Ability to read and communicate verbally in English
- Written communication skills in in English
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to perform these operations using units of America money and weight measurement, volume and distance
- Possess ability to operate an adding machine and have basic computer skills
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Employee must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations
- Must possess a valid driver's license and have acceptable driving history as determined by PENN Entertainment, Inc.'s auto insurance carrier
- Physically mobile with reasonable accommodations including ability to push, pull, carry and lift up to 35 lbs.
- Team Members must be drug free
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred knowledge of the Ohio State Rules of Racing
- Preferred knowledge on how to read a Condition Book
- Preferred Incompass Software experience
- Preferred basic horsemanship skills
