Job Summary
Conduct morning operations in the Racing Secretaries' Office by managing rider changes, producing daily programs, and processing overnight entries. Act as Placing, Paddock, Identifier, Patrol, and Clerk of Scales judges to verify horse identities, monitor equipment, process racing cards, and weigh jockeys. Serve as Claims Clerk to deliver claim envelopes and track approved claims with the Steward Stand. During races, post top four horses on tote boards and TV screens, verify finish orders using photo finish cameras, and submit infraction reports to Stewards. Requires one to two years of horse racing industry experience, knowledge of Pennsylvania Rules of Racing, and ability to read the Condition Book.
Required Qualifications
- One to two years of prior experience in the Horse Racing Industry
- Must have ability to read a Condition Book
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of the Pennsylvania Rules of Racing
- Must have outstanding guest service skills
- Must qualify for a license with the Pennsylvania State Racing Commission and meet any credentialing requirements of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions
- Must assist with all the morning work in the Racing Secretaries' Office
- Must act, at times, as Placing Judge

- Must act, at times, as Patrol Judge
- Must act, at times, as Clerk of Scales
