Job Summary
Lead the R&D Engineering Technician team of ~8 in building, testing, and deploying next-generation solar installation robots. Own build execution by ensuring systems are complete, on schedule, and meet quality standards through final inspection and sign-off. Manage team operations including approving hours/PTO, assigning work, conducting 1:1s, and providing performance feedback. Support mechanical and software engineering teams in assembly and testing while translating intent into clear build instructions. Develop engineering documentation, maintain the workshop, drive continuous-improvement initiatives like 5S, and enforce a strong safety culture. Available to work 5 days/week from San Leandro, CA headquarters.
Required Qualifications
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical and/or electrical assembly
- Prior experience leading or mentoring technicians
- Strong mechanical, electrical, equipment, and safety intuition
- Ability to interpret schematics/CAD drawings
- Ability to assemble complex electromechanical systems independently
- Positive attitude
- Enjoyment of working in-person
- Excitement about managing and motivating a small team
- Willingness to follow safety procedures
- Willingness to reinforce a strong and healthy culture of safety
- Availability to work 5 days/week
- Location in or willing to relocate to San Leandro, CA headquarters
