Job Summary

R&D Technician II responsible for supporting Mazda's vehicle development at the MNAO R&D facility. Key duties include preparing test vehicles and equipment, performing parts exchanges and repairs on chassis, interior, powertrain and electrical components, testing instrumentation and diagnostics (thermal, ride, NVH, CANbus, and other electronics), vehicle alignment and suspension setup, fabricating and installing test fixtures, coordinating vehicle logistics, and ensuring shop safety and readiness. The role requires automotive mechanical/electrical capabilities, basic fabrication skills, strong collaboration across engineers and technicians, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience with emissions testing support, equipment maintenance, OSHA compliance, and travel to support extended testing trips is expected. Education: AA/AS in Automotive Technology preferred; licenses/certifications and 5+ years of relevant experience strongly favored. Location: Irvine, CA; full-time, onsite position with occasional travel, salary range $27.65-$38.04 per hour as listed.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Automotive Technology (AA/AS) preferred
  • 5+ years hands-on automotive technician experience, including vehicle repair and diagnostics
  • 3+ years experience with shop area and equipment maintenance, safety compliance preferred
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record to operate MNAO vehicles; non-commercial fifth wheel towing proficiency within 30 days, forklift certification preferred, CPR certification preferred
  • Strong automotive technical knowledge and problem-solving skills across engine performance, chassis, steering, alignment, brake systems, electrical systems, HVAC and transmissions
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and complete assignments; strong communication skills; ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sensor instrumentation used in vehicle testing (preferred)
  • Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles; knowledge of towing regulations; basic vehicle evaluation experience (preferred)
  • Capability in metal fabrication and machining (preferred)
  • Experience with vehicle chassis setup and track-side support (preferred)
  • Ability to work with tight schedules and meet deadlines
