R&D Technician I

Job Summary

Prepare technical ceramics through pressing, firing, cutting, and polishing while performing analytical tasks to support development and pilot production. Create technical reports, gather data using appropriate software, and assist in analyzing systems, processes, products, or equipment. Troubleshoot specific equipment, perform preventative maintenance, and clean tools as required. Work independently on assigned projects following approved work instructions, cross-train on equipment operations, and comply with customer specifications, quality, and safety standards. Handle hazardous chemicals and wear appropriate PPE, including a respirator where necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus 3 years related work experience
  • Bachelor's degree with 1 year of related work experience
  • Intermediate math and writing skills
  • Basic statistics knowledge
  • Ability to generate basic technical reports
  • Understanding of basic ceramic science principles
  • Ability to use the computer system for basic departmental functions
  • Ability to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds
  • Effective cooperation and communication skills
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
  • Ability to handle hazardous chemicals such as acids and solvents
  • Ability to wear a respirator
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

  • Experience operating manufacturing equipment
  • Experience with lapping and polishing systems
  • Experience with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Experience in a laboratory environment
