Job Summary
R&D Mechanical Engineer (Level I- Sr.) leads and collaborates on the design, testing, and certification of electrical power distribution products, working with a multidisciplinary team of electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers. Responsible for executing New Product Introduction (NPI) engineering work, writing detailed specifications, creating concept drawings, coordinating with NRTL for certification scope, generating 3D designs and BOMs, developing test plans and conducting tests (full-load temperature rise, dielectric and BIL, short-circuit, mechanical endurance, environmental, seismic shake-table), supporting in-house and third-party testing, and applying Design for Manufacturability (DFM) concepts with manufacturing engineers. Requires experience with NRTL evaluation/certification, standards such as UL 891/1558/508A and IEEE C37.20 series, SolidWorks proficiency, and the ability to travel up to 20% for testing and product development tasks.
Required Qualifications
- BSME or equivalent in experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience designing low and/or medium voltage power distribution equipment or related products
- Experience with NRTL (UL, CSA, etc.) evaluation, testing and certification processes
- Experience with common standards for electrical equipment (UL 891, 1558, 508A; IEEE C37.20, etc.)
- Design Experience using SolidWorks to produce 3D models is highly preferred
