Job Summary
R&D Laboratory Systems Lead in Japan is responsible for leading the Laboratory Systems team within DD&T, delivering robust and compliant laboratory computing solutions, translating complex needs into clear requirements, and driving productivity and data integrity. The role combines strategic technical leadership with business analysis, oversees a small team, manages cross-functional project delivery, budget and vendor management, and ensures alignment with global standards. Key focus areas include governance, risk management, change management, regulatory compliance (GxP/data integrity), incident/problem management, and collaboration with CyberSecurity and cloud/network teams to support global laboratory IT infrastructure. Strong communication in English and Japanese, experience with large-scale system implementations, and ability to operate in a global, multi-regional environment are essential. The role emphasizes leadership, stakeholder collaboration, and driving continuous improvement across laboratory systems and related infrastructure in Japan.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 10+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst, IT Management Consultant, and/or with System Development
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and supporting IT systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Japanese
- Experience leading large-size and complex system implementations and/or cross-functional programs
- Experience as a people manager and/or team lead (small team)
- Experience managing vendor/managed service partners for IT system support
- Experience managing IT financials and regional budget
- Knowledge of full lifecycle software development (requirements, design, validation, deployment, support, continuous improvement)
- Practical experience in Product Management and Agile methodologies and tools
- Ability to work with virtual teams across multiple countries
- Ability to communicate complex technical and scientific information clearly to stakeholders
- Ability to align local execution with global strategy/standards and raise Japan requirements into global discussions
- Leadership competencies: strategic thinking, stakeholder collaboration, change leadership, and cross-cultural people leadership
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline
- Experience in regulated environments (GxP, data integrity, change control) and QA collaboration
- Hands-on experience applying AI/ML capabilities to operational excellence
