Job Summary
R&D Engineer role at ABB in Bloomfield, CT focused on sub distribution transfer switch/FAST Transfer switch within the ELSP (Smart Power) business. Responsibilities include applying knowledge to interpretation, design, development, and manufacturing implementation of engineering programs that meet product requirements; engaging in customer discussions to translate needs into actionable engineering activities; leading and supporting new product introduction (NPI) activities in a manufacturing environment; producing and presenting technical documentation for reviews; and performing solid modeling in PTC Creo/Windchill for complex assemblies. The position emphasizes teamwork in a fast-paced environment and requires experience in mechanical design, 3D modeling, sheet metal design, and risk/failure analysis, with an onsite work model at ABB's Bloomfield, CT site. The role reports to a Chapter Lead and seeks candidates who are self-motivated, proactive, and capable of handling multiple priorities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical Engineering)
- 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering
- Experience in mechanical design including 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation in PTC Creo (or similar CAD tools)
- Experience with Sheet Metal design for enclosures or busbar systems using PTC Creo and Windchill PLM
- Solid modeling skills (PTC Creo/Windchill)
- Ability to lead and support new product introduction (NPI) in a manufacturing environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and in a team
- Experience with design, development, and manufacturing implementation of engineering programs
- Create/maintain technical documentation (drawings, BOMs, risk analysis, etc.)
- Ability to communicate with customers to translate needs into actionable engineering and design activities
- Knowledge of tolerance loops, problem-action lists, and failure root cause analysis
