Job Summary
Special Education Personal Care Teaching Assistant supports teachers in meeting individualized student and program needs in a PreK-12 school. Responsibilities include working with individual students or small groups, implementing student behavior plans, collecting and organizing data/portfolios, assisting with organization of desk and materials, facilitating student social interaction, and supporting inclusion in the general education setting. Requires lifting up to 50 pounds, the ability to assist with toileting/personal care as needed, and collaboration with teachers, nurses, and other service providers. Requires one year of college (two years preferred). Reports to the Principal or Designee. Per contract employment in Barnstable Public Schools.
Required Qualifications
- One year of college required; two years preferred
- Physical condition to manage behavior and lift up to 50 pounds
- Experience with students with disabilities preferred
- Basic understanding of child growth and development
