Job Summary
Perform final acceptance and rejection of welds in accordance with AWS, NAVSEA, and customer specifications while exercising stop-work authority when quality requirements are not met. Interpret applicable codes, standards, and contract requirements to ensure compliance throughout production, verifying Welding Procedure Specifications and NDT personnel qualifications. Support Inspection and Test Plans, oversee receiving and traceability activities, and lead dimensional inspections of complex fabricated assemblies. Review technical dispositions, participate in root cause investigations, and interface directly with customers, auditors, and regulatory agencies. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to quality inspectors while promoting continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Weld Inspector
- Certified Inspection Authority
- Final acceptance and rejection of welds
- Review and accept or reject NDT results
- Sign certified inspection documentation
- Exercise stop-work authority
- Interpret and apply the intent and requirements of applicable codes, standards, contract requirements, and customer specifications
- Verify compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
- Witness welder qualification
- Procedure qualification testing
- Review or approve weld repair activities
- Verify qualifications and certifications of NDT personnel
- Review NDT reports for completeness and compliance
- Ensure examinations are performed in accordance with approved procedures and applicable standards
- Support the development and execution of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs)
- Verify compliance with hold points, witness points, and customer inspection requirements
- Ensure inspection activities are properly documented
- Oversee receiving inspection activities
- Verify material certifications
- Maintain traceability requirements
- Ensure compliance with quality management system procedures
- Lead inspections of complex fabricated assemblies and welded structures
- Verify critical dimensions and tolerances
- Support acceptance testing activities
- Review and approve quality documentation packages
- Ensure contractual deliverables and CDRL requirements are met
- Maintain audit-ready quality records
- Review and approve technical dispositions
- Participate in root cause investigations
- Support implementation and verification of corrective actions
- Interface directly with customers, auditors, regulatory agencies, NAVSEA representatives, and DCMA personnel
- Participate in internal and external audits
- Support compliance reviews
