Job Summary

Conduct Quality Assurance and Quality Control inspections and surveillances for structural and welding work, including in-process, dimensional, and visual checks of materials and assemblies. Perform final work-package reviews, execute corrective action requests, and manage vendor audits to ensure compliance with NAVSEA, US Navy, MSC, ABS, and customer contract requirements. Maintain quality records, safeguard calibrated equipment, and advise management on test trends and audit results. Operate as a Quality Liaison to adjudicate non-conformances and assist in developing inspection procedures and test standards. Requires Level II NDT (VT) certification, physical capability for shop floor work, and a Secret-level security clearance. Overtime is routinely required.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Level II NDT (VT) certification
  • Working knowledge of NAVSEA, US Navy, Military Sealift Command (MSC), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Huntington Ingalls Industries- Newport News Shipbuilding (HIINNS) and Electric Boat (EB) specific requirements relating to welding, fabrication, inspections, and workmanship
  • Must possess and demonstrate working knowledge of NAVSEA, US Navy, Military Sealift Command (MSC), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Huntington Ingalls Industries- Newport News Shipbuilding (HIINNS) and Electric Boat (EB) specific requirements relating to welding, fabrication, inspections, and workmanship
  • Must be physically capable to stand/walk for long periods of time on the Fabrication Shop floor
  • Must be safety oriented and operate in a preventive capacity to reduce unplanned events and employee injuries
  • Overtime is routinely required
  • Personal transportation required for local inspections
  • Possession of an active State Driver's License is required
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Clearance up to Secret level may be required
  • Lifting/moving up to and including 50 pounds
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and including one of the following time related field experience scenario criteria: Bachelor's Degree, Level II NDT (VT) and 7 years technical experience relating US Navy structural installation, fabrication and/or inspection
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and including one of the following time related field experience scenario criteria: Associates Degree, Level II NDT (VT) and 10 years technical experience relating US Navy structural installation, fabrication and/or inspection
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and including one of the following time related field experience scenario criteria: Combination of On-the-Job Experience: 15 years Welder [Qualified]/ Level I WWI [Qualified]/ Level II NDT[Qualified] related to US Navy structural installation, fabrication and/or inspection
  • ASNT NDT Level II (VT)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain certification

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience assisting in the development and maintenance of quality standards for structural and pipe material and equipment receiving, in-process and final inspection in accordance with company and contractual requirements
  • Experience reviewing status of in-process rejections and recommending appropriate corrective action
  • Experience assisting QA as necessary with internal audits to monitor compliance with company procedures
  • Experience maintaining quality records for structural and pipe material
  • Experience advising management of test trends, returns, vendor performance and audit results and corrective action needed
  • Experience assisting in the development of quality control and inspection procedures for inclusion in production Fabrication Packages
  • Experience accomplishing and formally documenting in process, dimensional and visual inspections
  • Experience maintaining, safeguarding and being identified as the custodian of calibrated test and measurement equipment issued to the Fabrication Facility
  • Experience defining test standards, and specifying test equipment and procedures
  • Experience reviewing Technical Specifications and contract requirements during Fab Package to provide guidance for Welding, Brazing and NDT technical requirements, PCP development and qualification needs
  • Experience assisting in development of prepopulated test and inspection records
  • Experience aiding in monitoring compliance in accordance with company Quality Management System, Workmanship standards and Customer requirements
  • Experience conducting Quality Assurance and Quality Control Inspections, and Surveillances randomly and in accordance with written instructions
  • Experience performing inspections of material and prefabricated assemblies prior to items being delivered to customer or work site
  • Experience aiding in evaluation of Suppliers via audits and inspections
  • Experience performing duties in regard to support shop facility outfitting, organization, improvements and maintenance
  • Experience operating as a Quality Liaison to mitigate and adjudicate customer (internal and external) quality concerns and non-conformances
  • Experience assisting with review of QA control requirements with customer representative to assure compliance with requirements
  • Experience executing, investigating and responding to Internal and External Corrective Action Requests in accordance with Prism Maritime QMS and customer contract requirements
  • Experience assisting with review of contractually required documentation for accuracy and completeness
