Quality Packaging Specialist

Job Summary
As a Quality Packaging Specialist, you will collaborate with suppliers to develop and document packaging and returnable transport solutions for large, heavy, and high-value products including internal logistics solutions, and returnable cart systems. You will focus on ensuring the quality of Power Distribution Units (PDU), Static Transfer Switches (STS), and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) for data centers and critical power applications. Responsibilities include developing ergonomic, forklift-compatible packaging crates and returnable carts/racks; standardizing cart platforms across product families; performing structural design for dynamic loads, impact, and long lifecycle usage; ensuring compliance with ISPM-15, ISTA/ASTM, and OSHA safety requirements; and driving optimization projects to reduce costs. The role requires CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and hands-on design and validation of packaging. ABB is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer with comprehensive benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
- 3+ years of experience in heavy-duty packaging design, returnable packaging/cart / rack design
- Familiar with ISPM-15, ISTA/ASTM, OSHA safety requirements
- Knowledge of testing & validation of packaging like drop, tilt & impact tests, vibration & shock simulations, stacking tests
- Familiar with CAD tools like Solid Works, AutoCAD
