Quality Engineer

Job Summary
Develop and maintain quality systems for assigned projects while leading Statistical Process Control (SPC) implementation and discipline. Monitor SPC data to identify quality trends, analyze nonconforming material, and drive root cause analysis using 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone methodologies. Ensure adherence to Control Plans, PFMEA, and Process Flow Diagrams, then prepare and submit PPAP documentation to customers. Act as the primary quality contact for OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, managing complaints, scorecards, and corrective actions. Support APQP activities, new program launches, and supplier audits while collaborating on process improvements and scrap reduction. Track quality KPIs including PPM, scrap, and rework, then prepare reports for management. This role requires frequent shop floor interaction in an automotive plastic injection molding environment with day shift, off shift, and weekend availability. Occasional travel to customer or supplier locations may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent 5 years of experience)
- Minimum 2-5 years of Quality Engineering experience in automotive manufacturing
- Strong working knowledge of plastic injection molding processes
- Experience with SPC, PFMEA, Control Plans, APQP, and PPAP
- Proficiency with root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Must have experience and/or training in Statistical Process Control, QSB and LPAs
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Must be able to walk and sit
- Must be able to occasionally stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
- Must have close vision and color vision
- Must be required to wear appropriate PPE such as safety glasses, and reflecting green 'quality' vest
- Must be able to deal with odors, dust, and fumes associated with molding processes and materials
- Must be available for day shift, with off shift, weekend, or extended hours required to support production issues, launches, audits or customer concerns
- Must be able to interact with production personnel, engineering, maintenance, and management on the shop floor
- Must be able to travel to customer or supplier locations for audits, launches, or issue resolution
Desired Qualifications
- Prefer experience in automotive plastics injection molding environments
- Customer interface experience with OEMs and/or Tier 1 suppliers
- Prefer Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar certification
