Job Summary
Design, audit, and maintain quality control systems for incoming, in-process, and finished goods while leading root-cause investigations using methodologies like 5 Whys and 8D. Perform complex precision inspections on first-article parts and critical runs using CMM and standard measuring tools, then coordinate technician schedules and oversee gage calibration to ensure ISO compliance. Author Standard Operating Procedures, track scrap and defect metrics to drive continuous improvement, and serve as the lead auditor for internal ISO 9001 and 14001 standards. This hybrid role bridges technical engineering with hands-on shop-floor leadership in a manufacturing environment focused on gear technology.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing quality or quality engineering role
- High proficiency in blueprint reading
- Hands-on experience operating CMM equipment and using standard precision measuring tools
- Demonstrated experience using QA tools (FMEA, SPC, Root-Cause Analysis)
- Strong technical writing skills for creating reports and the ability to coach floor inspectors and communicate defects to production teams
- Must be able to navigate a bustling manufacturing floor safely
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs occasionally
- Must maintain a certain level of confidentiality
- Must be knowledgeable in the company's ISO 9001 & 14001 targets, objectives and goals
- Must have a clear understanding of departmental work instructions and processes
- Must be willing to attain ISO Auditor qualification
- Must be willing to learn, understand and practice Lean Manufacturing principles within our facility
- Must be capable of moving freely throughout the manufacturing plant and office to perform assignments
- Must project a positive image of self, department, and company
- Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily (stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms)
- Must be able to climb or balance occasionally
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl occasionally
- Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related technical field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Inspector (CQI)
- Gear inspection experience
