Job Summary

Monitor quality control and assurance requirements for all preservation work on commercial and US Navy vessels in accordance with Navy regulations and industry standards. Produce electronic and handwritten quality assurance documentation as objective evidence for the preservation process. Develop and maintain test and inspection plans for assigned jobs while documenting readings for metal anchor tooth profiles, paint film thickness, steel temperatures, and environmental conditions using calibrated equipment. Ensure all assigned equipment remains within calibration certification intervals and maintain good working order. Collaborate with customer QA personnel and follow strict safety procedures while working in confined spaces, on scaffolds, and in extreme temperatures.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • NACE Inspector and/or SSPC NBPI certification
  • Formal or informal on-the-job training in the marine industry
  • Familiarity with Navy and Society for Protective Coatings standards
  • Knowledge of Maritime paintings standards with particular emphasis in US Navy ship preservation criterion
  • Word processing skills
  • Spreadsheet skills
  • Email skills
  • Database computer skills
  • Ability to accomplish mathematical calculations associated with preservation readings and documentation
  • Ability to discern and carry out complex written, oral, or diagramed instructions
  • Ability to take direction
  • Ability to interact professionally, knowledgeably and cooperatively with supervisors and co-workers and customer representatives
  • Physical capability to work an 8-10 hour day
