Job Summary
Interpret roadway and bridge contract plans to ensure construction compliance and verify quality of field-tested materials including soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt. Attend key project meetings to maintain statewide consistency, inspect construction methods, and coordinate with project managers and contractors. Suspend non-compliant work, reject non-specification materials, and resolve discrepancies between contractor quality control and ODOT quality assurance test results. Provide technical guidance on testing procedures, troubleshooting mix designs, and ensuring program compliance while preparing material test summaries and authorizing payments. Oversee contractor split samples, confirm proper sampling and technician certifications, and train staff to maintain certifications and safe work practices. Perform at least 50% of work outdoors in inclement weather, requiring lifting up to 50 pounds and working near highway traffic. Requires valid US driver's license and certifications in CAgT, CEBT, CDT, CAT-I, and QCT.
Required Qualifications
- Four years of experience in the field of engineering in construction inspection, surveying and/or permitting
- An associate degree in the field of engineering (civil or transportation-related) and two years of engineering technician experience
- A bachelor's degree in the field of engineering (civil or transportation-related) and one year of engineering technician experience
- An equivalent combination of experience, education, and training
- Driving is an essential function of this position
- A valid US driver license
- An acceptable driving record
- Obtain and keep the following certifications: CAgT, CEBT, CDT, CAT-I, and QCT
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge and skills in material testing, quality control, compliance and construction project inspection
- Strong knowledge of mathematics and highway construction procedures and practices
- Skill in reading, interpreting and applying technical manuals, specifications, contract plans, and other guides
- Certifications in CATII, CCT and CMDT
