Job Summary

Prepare and administer safely and document regularly prescribed oral, eye, nasal, and ear medications to residents, including topical medications to intact skin and PRN drugs when authorized. Check physician orders against medication forms, maintain cleanliness and proper storage of all drugs, and keep the medication cart locked while unattended. Count all drugs on Individual Control Drug Records with the on-coming charge person at shift change and administer vital signs and document properly. Make rounds, report needs and conditions to the charge nurse, and answer call lights, bed/chair sensors, and security alarms promptly. Order medications from pharmacy per physician order and keep medical records current by charting pertinent resident conditions timely. Comply with facility privacy practices and procedures related to resident and employee records.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to work overtime
  • Successful completion of a state approved training program in medication administration
  • Must complete annual medication evaluation with Registered Pharmacy Consultant
  • Current-CPR Certification
  • Current QMA Certificate for current state
