Job Summary
PRN Certified Medication Technician responsible for medication administration per physician orders, charting routine medications and PRN administration, maintaining medication inventory, and providing personal care while ensuring a safe, clean, and resident-centered environment. The role involves rounds with a nurse and physician, documenting medication records and daily living activities, and adhering to department, center, and corporate policies, quality improvement, safety, and infection-control standards. Requires high school diploma or GED, completion of an approved Nurse Aide Training Program (or eligibility to enter and graduate with state test within 120 days), knowledge of medication administration procedures, basic math skills, and an understanding of resident care procedures. Strong communication with staff, residents, families, and external agencies is essential, as is the ability to work effectively within a healthcare team.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED equivalent
- Graduate of an approved Nurse Aide Training Program or be eligible to enter such a program and graduate and pass a state test within 120 days from date of employment
- Understanding of medication administration procedures and successful completion of a state approved training course
- Ability to perform basic math functions
- Understanding of resident care procedures and standards
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant
- Prior experience in a healthcare environment is desirable
- Ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public
- Willingness to seek new methods and principles and to incorporate them into existing nursing practices
- Willingness and ability to relate information concerning a resident’s condition
