Job Summary
Administer oral, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and optic medications to residents while observing and reporting drug effects to the licensed nurse. Perform CNA duties including caring for residents to the full capacity allowed by the title, documenting medication administration or refusals in the medical record, and notifying the nurse in charge immediately. Obtain PRN medications and treatments only upon authorization from the licensed nurse or physician. Maintain resident confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and honor their privacy. Complete tasks correctly and on time while lifting up to 60 pounds frequently. Maintain certification as a state-approved Certified Nursing Assistant and furnish proof of QMA certification. Work under the supervision of the community nurse with a willingness to cooperate with staff and residents.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a state-approved medication administration course, in accordance with the regulatory agency guidelines, and be able to furnish and maintain proof of certification as a QMA
- Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant, recognized by the state of Indiana and maintain certification
- Knowledgeable and able to use the equipment and devices used in the administration of medications to residents
- Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written communications
- Ability to maintain accurate medication records for each resident
- Willingness to cooperate and work with other staff and residents
- Ability to lift to 80 pounds occasionally and up to 60 pounds frequently
