Job Summary
Conducts trade-specific inspections of elevator, escalator, and moving-walk systems, verifying that operation, construction, retrofit, or repair work complies with applicable codes, drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents. Reads, interprets, and comprehends equipment operation and installation plans; uses standard testing devices to ensure requirements are met; applies code requirements and standards per state/local/national regulations; coordinates work with elevator service companies and property managers; adheres to safety practices to prevent hazards; supports quality control in inspections across various phases of elevator equipment; leverages knowledge of blueprints and technical documents to identify defects and recommend remedial actions.
Required Qualifications
- Possession of current QEI (Qualified Elevator Inspector) certification OR Five years’ experience in the elevator industry performing elevator inspections, service, repairs, and/or testing of elevator systems. Education in the engineering discipline may be substituted for two years of field experience.
- Knowledge of installing, repairing, and maintaining electric and hydraulic elevators, escalators, and moving walks
- Fundamental mechanical and electrical principles as they apply to elevators and similar controls
- Understanding of the American National Standard Safety Code for Elevators, Dumbwaiters, Escalators and Moving Walks as referenced and amended in the Construction Code and jurisdictional requirements
- Ability to read graphic instructions such as blueprints, schematic drawings and layouts and to comprehend and infer from written materials and code documents
- IT/IS skills including MS Office, Excel, Access
