QC Technician - Concrete - Sterling

Job Summary

Perform sample testing and monitoring of concrete production and procedures, observe job site testing, and conduct comparative testing with independent agencies. Communicate with customers, laboratories, and supervisors regarding mix utilization and admixture dosage rates. Perform plant inspections, recommend corrective actions for compliance with project and Federal specifications, and conduct visual assessments of jobsite conditions. Monitor test report data to determine specification compliance and perform ASTM, ACI, and VDOT testing procedures. Support sales and production by resolving quality-based customer queries and investigating causes linked to process or production conditions. May serve as a backup plant operator for safe, efficient production. Requires VDOT, ACI, and Lab Technician certifications, minimum one year experience in ready-mix concrete, and ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and overtime.

Required Qualifications

  • HS. Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year experience in Ready Mix Concrete, quality control, or related industry
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be computer literate in Windows, Excel, Adobe, and MS Office
  • Excellent data entry skills
  • Ability to multi-task under pressure
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
  • Working outdoors with exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold and other outdoor environmental conditions
  • Constant standing and walking
  • Climbing
  • Working from heights
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and overtime
  • Job requires the following motions: climbing, stretching, driving/steering, sitting, twisting, vibration, riding on rough terrain, and exposure to extremes of heat or cold weather
  • Ability to pass pre-employment processes including criminal background check, physical, and drug screen
  • Travel between sites as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • VDOT Plant, ACI Field Testing, Aggregate, and Lab Technician Certifications preferred or able to obtain within the first six months of hire
  • College degree
  • Knowledge of other software programs and computer functionality a plus
