Job Summary
ROLE OVERVIEW: QA Engineer to own quality across a fast-moving product. Build and scale QA from the ground up, set the quality bar, drive automation, and move toward continuous delivery safely. Will work with product engineers and prototypers to balance speed with safety. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: own QA strategy end-to-end from triaging risk to implementing automation; design and implement a scalable QA process for small teams; set the quality bar for production-ready releases; automate across Django and NextJS stack (integration, E2E, regression); apply AI to QA (test case generation, diffing, log analysis); collaborate with engineers and product leads. ESSENTIAL: experience standing up QA functions in early-stage teams; prioritise testing pragmatically; proficiency with QA tooling (Playwright, Pytest, Cypress); full-stack exposure; CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions); clear communication. NICE TO HAVE: AI/ML testing experience; Pytest-related tools; React/NextJS frontend testing; startup experience. WHAT WE OFFER: foundational role enabling continuous delivery, autonomy, contract role with 3 months initial term then rolling monthly, rate up to £50k per annum.
Required Qualifications
- Experience standing up QA functions or frameworks in early-stage teams
- Ability to prioritise testing pragmatically, balancing risk vs. velocity
- Fluency in QA tooling and frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Pytest, Cypress)
- Comfortable working across a full-stack environment (backend APIs, front-end UIs, async jobs)
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tooling (we use GitHub Actions)
- Clear communicator who collaborates well with engineers and product leads
- Nice to Have: Experience testing AI-based or ML-driven products
- Nice to Have: Familiarity with pytest, factory_boy, or coverage.py in Python
- Nice to Have: Comfort writing or reviewing testable frontend components in React/NextJS
- Nice to Have: Experience working in a startup or similarly fast-moving environment
