Job Summary
Lead a crew in maintaining water lines, fire hydrants, and valves while performing emergency repairs, relocating lines, and conducting taps. Assist with staff selection, training, and evaluation, and cross-train with other divisions as needed. Restore city rights of way and private property disturbed by construction through concrete and asphalt repairs, and perform water line mapping and distribution maintenance. Locate utilities, oversee annual system flushing, and supervise water connections for residences and businesses. Serve on-call every sixth week with a 30-minute response time for snow/ice operations and special projects. Comply with safety standards, establish work zones, and foster a diverse, honest work environment. Requires a valid CDL Class B license and DS3 certification.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years' experience or service.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid CDL Class B driver's license with air brake and tank vehicle endorsements within 6 months of hire.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Missouri for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Must obtain DS3 certification within 6 months of hire (requires 3 total years in water distribution to earn).
- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
