Job Summary
Provide peer support to adults and young adults with mental health challenges or homelessness in Chittenden County, meeting clients in shelters, public spaces, and community locations. Coordinate and oversee peer support groups while ensuring best practices, monitoring participation, and collecting data for regular reporting. Supervise 3–5 staff members with compassion, lead staff meetings and co-reflection, and serve as a liaison to community partners. Assist in creating outreach materials and attend bi-monthly supervisor meetings, monthly all-staff meetings, and required trainings. This role draws on personal experiences of mental health or life struggles to connect authentically with community members. Pathways Vermont, a nonprofit ending homelessness in Vermont, values diverse applicants including those with military experience or disabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Integrity, credibility, and commitment to Pathways' mission
- Willingness and ability to connect with others from a peer perspective around mental health, homelessness, or other significant life challenges
- Ability to work independently and accurately collect and track data
- Smartphone and computer skills as well as familiarity with Google Suite
- Trained in Intentional Peer Support Training (or commitment to be trained within 6 months of hiring)
- Valid driver's license (please note certain driving violations or DMV records may disqualify you from this position) and ability to drive a minivan
- Ability to ascend and descend stairs
- Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, standing and lifting of arms to participate in cleaning, space organization and event preparation and tear-down
- Often meeting with persons in the community and/or visiting different businesses
- Walking around the community to participate in activities and connect with service recipients
- Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds (i.e. carrying equipment or materials for activities, outreach)
- Frequent exposure to outside environmental conditions in community outreach and visits
- Frequent utilization of close visual acuity and reading from a computer screen, must be able to read information captured in type and free hand form
- Attendance at the annual All Staff and Programmatic Retreats
- Attend bi-monthly supervisor's meetings, monthly all-staff meetings, bi-annual incident review, required training, and bi-annual all-staff retreats
- Occasional responsibilities outside these hours will be expected, including a couple of weekend days annually
- Full-Time (9am – 5pm Mon – Fri, 35–40 hours per week)

- Group facilitation experience preferred
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to network and establish partnerships
- Patience, creativity, flexibility, compassion
- Commitment to excellent services, racial and economic justice, and serving diverse populations including LGBTQ+, persons with disabilities, individuals who have experienced trauma, and persons who have been oppressed
- Personal experience of homelessness, mental health, extreme states, or other life challenges considered an asset
