Job Summary
Coordinate procurement activities for raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, and supplies by conferring with vendors on price, availability, and delivery schedules. Prepare purchase orders and quotes based on MRP demands, review proposals, and negotiate contracts within budgetary limits. Maintain procurement records, discuss defective goods with quality control and users, and conduct supplier audits to address corrective action requests. Establish relationships with vendors to ensure continuous supply and support the Production and Sales departments with accurate material quotes. Participate in make/buy decisions and sourcing for manufactured parts and tooling while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in department productivity.
Required Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, vendor quotes, purchase orders, process manuals, and complex instructions
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively with vendor representatives, management, or other members of the organization
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as unit of measure conversions, proportions, and percentages
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Excellent organizational, problem solving, and planning skills
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Basic computer skills including file structure, email
- Competency in Microsoft Office
- Working Knowledge of MRP/ERP systems
- Basic Internet search capabilities
- Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness
- Must be self-driven to excel
- 1 year purchasing or comparable experience
- Associates degree or equivalent
