Job Summary
Initiate, track, and process "payer of last resort" health insurance claims according to United Indian Health Services Purchased Referred Care guidelines. Maintain PRC files accurately while determining if incoming referrals and emergency care notices meet approved priorities. Prepare and follow up on referrals requiring medical and dental review, contact outside providers for charge estimates, and create purchase orders for eligible cases. Communicate with agencies, providers, and clients regarding claim status, submit purchase orders or claims to the Humboldt Independent Practice Association, and track cases through appointment, outcome, and final payment processing. Prepare periodic reports on claims reviewed and processed, run monthly exports, and participate in PRC-related Board and administrative meetings as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
- 0-1 years of clerical office or related experience that indicates the ability to learn the skills necessary to perform the duties of the position
- 1-2 years of experience working with PRC or other related areas
- Knowledge of PRC and able to perform the duties of the position
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- 3 or more years of experience in PRC or related areas
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience in health care setting
- Able to train level I
- Able to train level I or II
- Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Able to learn and work with the electronic health record and practice management systems
- Must be willing to learn more about the American Indian culture and attend at least one Cultural Presentation/Training per year
- Must be willing to work with American Indian/Alaska Native people and demonstrate cultural awareness and humility
- Must be willing to deliver services in a culturally responsive manner
- Must demonstrate a commitment to the provision of culturally sensitive counseling services to American Indians
- Must adhere to accreditation and compliance standards/guideline
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a health care setting preferred
