Job Summary
Pupil Support Assistant (2) to work under the direction of a class teacher or senior staff, supporting children and young people identified as needing additional support. Responsibilities include: supporting pupils individually or in class/small groups in identified areas of learning and personal development; contributing information to update planning and review processes for individual pupils; supervising self-administration of medication and providing high levels of personal care to enable pupils to function to their full potential; carrying out support programmes designed by visiting specialists (e.g., speech and language, physiotherapy, occupational therapy); supporting pupil mobility on an emergency/short-term basis and for low-level needs; and working as part of a team to achieve positive outcomes for learners. The role requires PVG scheme membership, willingness to register with SSSC within 6 months, and completing relevant Scottish qualifications. The position is a temporary contract with duties aligned to supporting learners’ wellbeing and development within Donibristle Primary School, Fife.
Required Qualifications
- Good IT Skills
- Experience of supporting young people with additional support needs
- PVG scheme membership (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) through Disclosure Scotland
- Ability to register with SSSC within 6 months of taking up employment (for Early Learning Centres/Primary and Special schools) and complete required Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL)
- SCQF Level 4 or above: 2 National 5’s, or 2 Standard Grades General, or 2 O Grades or equivalent
- NC in Early Education and Childcare at SCQF Level 6 or SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 6 or Professional Development Award in Education Support Assistance at SCQF Level 6 or equivalent
- Commitment to achieve in first period of registration as required by the Employer
- Role involves supervising administration of medication and providing personal care and mobility support
