Job Summary
Punjabi Reviewer/Editor/Certifier to support DOJ Linguistic Support Services. Responsibilities include translation of documents and media content (video/audio), transcription, and interpretation across legal, medical, financial, historical, and other specialized terminologies. Materials may be provided in various formats; handling of sensitive information with strict confidentiality is required. Must maintain factual and conceptual accuracy, preserve tone and register, and utilize CAT tools (notably SDL Trados Studio). Role emphasizes linguistic quality in legal contexts and compliance with ethics in translation, with some travel and remote work options. Eligible candidates must have substantial experience in Punjabi-English translation/editing, ILR 4 or equivalent, U.S. residency in the past five years, at least one year of experience in law enforcement or legal settings, U.S. citizenship, and security clearance readiness.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language with superior English and editing skills
- ILR 4 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (not necessarily consecutive)
- At least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Proficient in using Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, especially SDL Trados Studio
- Knowledge of English and target language vocabularies in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual contexts
- Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in English and the foreign language related to the Government’s varied roles and missions
- Written fluency in native language with professional command of the non-native language
- Ability to translate accurately without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source materials
- Adherence to relevant code of linguist ethics
- Travel may be required
- Remote/CONUS/NCR locations as applicable
