Job Summary

Evaluate patients admitted with COPD, respiratory failure, or asthma exacerbations to determine the need for education and follow-up. Assist continuity of care with respiratory orders for discharge and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide a plan of care including COPD action plans, smoking cessation support, and medication training. Provide educational materials on disease triggers, self-management skills, and device technique, then perform patient follow-up calls. Maintain statistical data on admissions and readmissions while participating in the continuous quality improvement process. Works under moderate supervision with a Massachusetts Respiratory Care Licensure and RRT certification required.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree from an accredited Respiratory Care program
  • Massachusetts Respiratory Care Licensure
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Pulmonary Disease Educator Certification OR Obtain within six (6) months of hire
  • Three (3) year of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Ability to walk and stand for approximately 90% of the time
  • Ability to transport respiratory therapy equipment (up to 100 lbs) using carts or wheels on the equipment to and from patient areas
  • Ability to communicate with and assess the patient needs of different age populations
  • Medical terminology, physiology of the cardiopulmonary system, and Respiratory Science
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all professional staff as well as all patients
  • Ability to assess patient status and develop treatment plans
  • Ability to perform all required duties under emergency and stressful situations

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care, Health Sciences, or related degree
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
