Job Summary

Publish flash headlines from press releases, SEC filings, earnings reports, and conference calls, then edit and publish short market updates in 8–10 minutes by adding essential context like prior periods, guidance, and deal terms. Run the newsflow during busy windows by prioritizing, coordinating, preventing duplication, and maintaining consistent standards while assigning coverage to reporters and routing copy to editors in real time. Headline and edit key economic indicators including jobs, inflation, retail sales, housing, and manufacturing revisions. Use newsroom tools, metadata, and internal coding correctly to ensure content reaches the right feeds quickly, while supporting carefully managed newsroom automation and GenAI pilots with editorial QA. Uphold Dow Jones standards for accuracy and ethics.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years of real-time editing/production experience (wires, markets desk, breaking news, live environments)
  • Speed under pressure: comfortable with numbers, earnings language and corporate disclosures and able to publish flash headlines in seconds and edit/publish 100–200 word updates in ~8–10 minutes—accurately and repeatedly
  • Market news judgment: ability to make fast, independent calls under pressure—without sacrificing accuracy
  • strong instinct for what is market-moving vs noise; can prioritize and run a live queue during busy windows
  • Economic data competence: able to headline and edit key macro releases (jobs, inflation, retail sales, housing, manufacturing), including revisions and 'why it matters'
  • Clear, clean writing: ability to write tight headlines and short takes with unambiguous language for a professional investor audience
  • Desk coordination / assignment: ability to assign coverage to reporters and route copy to editors in real time to keep the file moving
  • Workflow and publishing systems: strong command of newsroom tools, metadata/coding/tagging and house style; operationally reliable
  • High accuracy standards: strong attention to detail with numbers, tickers, attribution and timing; understands the cost of errors in markets news
  • Shift 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 11:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Comfort with new tools: interested in improving speed/quality through technology, including participating in carefully managed automation/GenAI pilots and editorial QA
